These individuals also attribute it with contributing to issues like gangs, gun violence and teen pregnancy; yet these issues existed long before rap music emerged on the scene. While critics may see its negative connotations as counterproductive to society at large; other fans claim these artists are simply expressing themselves.
Rappers have become the voice of urban African American working-class youth who find their lives and struggles largely neglected by mainstream media. Through lyrics and lifestyle choices they provide an outlet to vent feelings of discontentment that lead to violence within inner city communities. To effectively address nihilistic tendencies that lead to violent acts in America’s urban communities, such as poverty, prejudice and a lack of social services – we must address their underlying causes such as poverty. Furthermore, they have proposed musical rating systems, parental advisory warnings or outright censorship as measures to safeguard children.

Although some messages in rap may be perceived as negative, many rappers make an attempt to promote positive values by inspiring youths to follow a moral code like respecting women, hard work and self-reliance.
It has a strong message

Instead, we must seek solutions by promoting economic opportunities and improving services to America’s urban communities – this may mean providing economic advancement or improving services to working-class populations.
