Just four open chords and an easy strumming pattern can bring this beautiful song to life!

Chords

A chord is composed of multiple notes played together and typically contains triads or sevenths. Guitarists may alter its tone by altering note order and chord voicing – something demonstrated by Johnny Marr from The Smiths and Ry Cooder. This allows an almost infinite variety of chords.

The guitar’s fundamental chords include major and minor triads and dominant sevenths — these chords are constructed using intervals of thirds and fourths (emboldend). A minor seventh interval adds extra harmonic layers; these can be found in jazz or folk music settings. Furthermore, major-minor seventh chords (vii7 chord) serve as dominants that use their bass note as their source note – these chords may also be played using standard tuning for best results.

To produce a dominant seventh chord on an electric guitar in standard tuning, guitarists must use barre chords or inversions which require their left hand to span more frets than usual. This can be especially challenging on six-string instruments with standard tuning; therefore, alternate voicings for certain dominant seventh chords may be required. These techniques are also popular on acoustic guitars used in country and bluegrass music genres; using a capo on the sixth fret can make playing these chords simpler.

Tablature

Tab is simply a system of lines and numbers used to indicate which strings you should play on a guitar. Each string is represented by its own line while frets on that string are represented by numbers; picking open strings (ones without frets) would correspond with zero frets on it. Chord diagrams may also be found here as stacks of numbers that tell which notes should be played together to form chords.

As a beginner, learning tablature can be quickly learned; oftentimes it provides the simplest approach for readers who are just starting out in music reading. But for maximum effect it would be wiser to also learn standard notation as part of your musical education.

Tab does not indicate which fingers to use to play each note; over time you will develop your own sense of which fingers work best for you when performing a specific song or chord progression.

Another symbol used in tab to represent techniques is a wavy line indicating vibrato. This subtle technique adds vocal qualities to your guitar playing, so use an evenly spaced and gradual vibrato rather than fast, sudden ones.

Video

Due to the Internet and social media, artists can reach millions of people without needing a record label to do so. This has enabled talented musicians to make a living from their music while becoming successful performers.

But, if you want your guitar videos to stand out from the competition, it is vitally important that the production quality be of high standard. YouTube viewers expect high-quality content; otherwise they could simply scroll past it and skip your content entirely.

To improve the quality of your video, set up your camera on a tripod in a well-lit room and apply some basic color correction – this will give your footage a professional cinematic aesthetic!

Finally, invest in a quality audio interface. These can be found for an affordable price on Amazon and Sweetwater and allow you to connect directly from your guitar to the computer without passing through preamps on amplifiers, guaranteeing cleaner recordings.

As recording guitar and vocals separately is also recommended, as otherwise they might not sync up when editing in your DAW.
