R&B music celebrates rhythm and blues as well as black culture. This form of entertainment can often be found at nightclubs or other venues that also serve food. New York City boasts some top-tier R&B venues.
Berry Gordy of Motown fame created a successful collection of R&B labels featuring artists like Gladys Knight and the Pips, Supremes and Temptations as well as popularizing deep soul and southern soul music styles.
1. The Garfield Club
Fosil Ridge High School hosts The Garfield Club, an informal group in which students can watch and discuss Garfield episodes, play games, and create crafts. Meeting on Mondays during lunch in Room E112, members can watch episodes together before participating in activities like a lasagna bakeoff competition and other special events hosted by The Club – recently revived due to COVID-19 cancellation.
Garfield Club offers an ideal setting for drinking and dancing with its full menu of food served “all day er’day”, along with its wide variety of beer, wine, spirits and coffee beverages. Plus they host live music every Thursday night and DJs on weekends!
This course is slightly more challenging than others but the staff is friendly and helpful. They offer a range of food and beverages including their happy hour from 4-6 pm; making this course an excellent place for friends or families alike to hang out! I highly recommend this course! The food is amazing while everyone there is super friendly… I especially enjoy their seafood plates on Friday like clam bellys, clam zupa fish n chips… If your looking for fun this is where to be!
2. Slaughterhouse
Novels featuring slaughterhouse scenes either in the past or in the future are known as slaughterhouse paradox or loop, a type of narrative technique in which the narrator narrates between different points in time.
Slaughterhouse by Kurt Vonnegut was published in 1969 as an autobiographical novel that recounts his World War 11 experiences through Billy Pilgrim. Upon publication, Slaughterhouse became a best seller and has become part of popular culture ever since; including Footloose and even The Simpsons!
4. Garfield’s 502
The Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce will host the 19th Annual Garfield’s 502 R&B Festival this Saturday, July 15. This neighborhood celebration features delicious food offerings and exceptional music performances to bring peace and unity while giving local artists from gospel, R&B, jazz, blues as well as bluegrass an outlet. The event spans four blocks from 4th Streets up to Seventh Streets.
Established in 1997, this festival has grown into an event that brings people together for an afternoon of music and local food vendors. This year’s lineup features national recording artist K’Jon and Milwaukee native Rodney Poe as well as numerous local bands. Furthermore, a dedicated kids tent area allows young attendees and their families to have an enjoyable experience at this festival.
Garfield’s 502 Club stands as an epitome of what is happening across a city that is rapidly developing, yet remains humble when proclaiming their mission of “swinging into the future”. Fittingly located at 502 W. Garfield Avenue – between Halyard Park and Bronzeville neighborhoods – it is clear where its roots lie.
This bar provides delicious food and wine in an intimate, welcoming setting with friendly staff, offering reasonably priced drinks that make an ideal place to visit after work. Customers love their tasty chicken fingers while the menu boasts numerous vegetarian-friendly items as well. Overall, it makes for a relaxing dining experience!
5. The Garfield Lounge
The Garfield Lounge is an inviting bar that offers amazing food and drinks at reasonable prices, along with amazing service and fair pricing. Their Google review scores are outstanding, making this visit worth your while.

Every second weekend in July, this event takes place in Milwaukee’s Halyard Park neighborhood.
