Country music has long been an integral part of American culture, particularly in the midwest. Film and literature depict this genre beautifully as it captures its wilder side and stands as a representation of American identity.
Country music has long been considered an expression of life and freedom; yet its popularity can sometimes spark controversy. Country’s appeal lies in its capacity to unite communities against oppression and unify against it.
Saloons were social gathering places throughout the Wild West where men could come together and enjoy card games while drinking strong liquor. Saloons provided an opportunity for miners, farmers, cowboys, outlaws and lawmen to congregate, gamble and socialize within their community.
These gatherings were typically peaceful; however, violence could sometimes break out for several reasons, including that many were open to the public and provided access to potent spirits such as whiskey.
Additionally, the Wild West’s lawlessness allowed bargoers to easily engage in fights with fellow patrons at establishments – an event which led to the Anti-Saloon League being formed and then driving prohibition into effect.
Even during this era of anti-saloon activism, many establishments were still open and serving alcohol. Some also served as pubs or dancing halls for young women of the town.
As in any bar, the first thing that would strike anyone visiting a western saloon would be its long, paneled bar made from oak or mahogany and polished to an exquisite shine encircled by a brass footrail and decorated with spittoons.

They have an inexpensive selection of beer to keep things lively – it is truly one of my go-to spots when in need of something refreshing to drink!
