Ukulele Songs could easily become predictable with 16 tracks of Vedder playing his tiny Hawaiian instrument and singing love songs; however, several subtle touches help make the album engaging.
Ukuleles combine with other instruments to produce an eclectic blend of sounds. Cello complements Eddie’s reflective melody of “Longing to Belong,” while Cat Power delicately backs him on “Tonight You Belong to Me.” Additionally, this deluxe vinyl comes equipped with a hardback book containing ukulele lessons and song charts.
Features
The ukulele is an engaging instrument, offering its players endless creative potential in terms of sound creation. Due to this versatility and simplicity, beginners as well as veteran musicians often opt for it. Furthermore, its versatile nature means it can be used across genres; rock-infused ukuleles can produce distinctive electric-funky sounds.
Ukulele Songs is an exquisite album by Eddie Vedder that showcases his talents as both an artist and human being. The music on this record creates an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy akin to being at an intimate concert in your living room; its gentle strumming on ukulele coupled with his distinct vocals are sure to touch a wide variety of listeners.
This deluxe edition LP comes in expanded packaging with 16-page booklet and special lithograph, and contains the original 16 tracks of Ukulele Songs on high-grade 180-gram black vinyl – marking its return to shelves ten years after its initial LP release! UMe/Republic Records plans on reissuing it on May 6 for its initial vinyl release back then.
Vedder recorded Ukulele Songs at several solo concerts across the country, moving away from his band’s grandiose performances and forging deeper personal connections with fans. As a result, this enchanting album showcases original material written and performed live by Vedder as well as classic standards and covers by Glen Hansard (The Frames) on Sleepless Nights and Cat Power on Tonight You Belong to Me; Ukulele Songs also includes guest vocalists like Cat Power on Tonight You Belong to Me along with instrumental tracks giving this record an unique soundscape.
