Chords

Create chords on a guitar is an invaluable skill. Chords form the backbone of music pieces, so knowing how to build various types of chords in different keys is vital in understanding its composition. Furthermore, knowledge of chord professions – patterns of notes created when specific scales are harmonized together – is also essential.

A triad is the simplest type of chord and requires just three notes, making it one of the easiest shapes to learn on guitar. Once you master these basic forms, more complex chords that use more than one note may become available; additionally, experimentation may change both its sound and name; for example a sus4 chord replaces the fourth note in either major or minor scale with fifth notes for added tension and suspense in melodies.
