Rock

Grunge first emerged during the 1980s in Seattle when musicians became disenchanted with mainstream rock music and sought their own style; this led them to create grunge music which featured distorted guitars with pounding drum beats; this genre later inspired bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam who inspired generations of young rock musicians alike.

Country has many subgenres such as country pop and rock which combine elements from other genres like rock, pop and hip-hop into one sound – Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett are two artists known to have created their own distinct brand of country.
Classic country is defined by hits from the 20’s through 70’s by artists like Hank Williams, George Jones and Johnny Cash. Modern country music covers more diverse ground than its classic counterpart and includes honky tonk, Western swing and countrypolitan. Contemporary bluegrass acts such as Alison Krauss & Nickel Creek fall within this genre while artists with pop influences also fit within this definition.
Bro country music exhibits a romanticized sentimentality towards women while metro-bro is more EDM influenced, and incorporates urban themes.
Pop is a highly popular music genre with several subgenres. Easily identifiable, pop appeals to multiple audiences and has become an international phenomenon. While its roots lie in various genres, modern culture has had a tremendous effect on it – Taylor Swift and Beyonce dominate Billboard charts today and continue to influence younger generations with catchy melodies and relatable lyrics in their songs.
Classical
Modernly speaking, classical refers to Western art music from the Classical Era which dates back to 1750s. This period included musical works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven and marked a shift away from baroque and Renaissance styles towards more structured works focusing on harmony and balance.
Musical genres are typically designated based on cultural or historical references, instrumentation style or tempo; for instance funk rock combines elements of funk with rock music while electro-pop marries electronic with pop. Some musical genres are named according to their energy level – for instance ballads or uptempo songs such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller are included within pop.
Rock and roll music was popularized over 70 years ago with Bill Haley and the Beatles, while other popular genres include country (which draws its roots from traditional folk songs), rap/hip-hop, R&B and pop. Many of these musical genres have had an influence on other styles while continuing to find new audiences; some genres even found a home on television shows and movies! Although often criticised, popular musical genres continue to have an immense positive effect on culture worldwide.
R&B
R&B music encompasses soul music, disco and funk genres. Originating in African-American culture during WWII as an acronym, R&B became widely popular during subsequent decades when used to label black artists like Stevie Wonder or the Beatles as members of rock groups such as Stevie Wonder or the Beatles were added into this genre’s genre classification. Today many elements that comprised classic R&B are present within Contemporary R&B such as strong backbeats, bluesy melodies and soulful vocals.
R&B initially featured political themes due to many African American artists being social organizers and activists themselves. Over time however, artists like Aretha Franklin and Luther Vandross pushed the limits of what people considered R&B; their lyrics frequently addressed personal triumphs and failures within relationships, economics, and race relations.
In the 1980s, disco and funk began incorporating many of the musical elements that defined classic R&B into disco music and funk, leading to modern R&B which features more relaxed melodies that blend into dance music. Recently it has also begun to incorporate elements of hip hop with artists like Bryson Tiller and Drake combining singing and rapping as they blend singing into hip hop beats. Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, and Michael Jackson are renowned Contemporary R&B singers known for their powerful singing which has earned them Grammy awards over time – Toni Braxton won three Grammy awards due to her powerful singing talent!
Pop
Music genres are classifications used to categorize musical styles that share similar features, often including cultural influences, instruments used and vocal styles; genres may also be defined by particular artists or bands’ popularity.
Pop, rock and hip-hop music genres are among the most widely enjoyed. Pop music encompasses many subgenres of urban dance music such as Latin. Pop songs often feature short to medium length songs with repetitive choruses and hooks designed for dancing at an easy tempo, often featuring beats that sync with modern dance moves; its lyrics often focus on matters related to love, romance and relationships.
Many music genres are named for influential artists or bands that helped shape them, such as punk rock being associated with The Ramones and Nirvana. Others may refer to geographic regions or time periods – for instance reggaeton and salsa are rooted in Caribbean culture.
Pop music remains at the top of American charts and sales increased 3.9% year-on-year to over $6.53 billion in revenues in 2017. R&B/Hip-Hop is second most popular genre and its fan base spans all ages; songs feature rhythmic rapping; this genre has long been around and become an international phenomenon.
Hip-Hop
Hip-hop emerged in New York’s Bronx neighborhoods in the 1970s, taking longstanding African American musical traditions in exciting new directions. Groups such as Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, NWA and Run DMC used drum kits, sampling, scratching and spoken word poetry into their music to express social issues plaguing their communities through poetry. Hip-hop quickly become more than music: it became its own culture with distinct clothing, graffiti art, dance styles and languages all its own.
Rappers tend to speak quickly in a fast-paced style that features rhymes and slang words, often breaking the beat to facilitate dancing during instrumental sections called “breaks.” DJ Kool Herc is widely credited with pioneering this concept during early hip-hop music days; today it remains part of hip-hop as an entire music genre that encompasses numerous forms such as gangsta rap and conscious rapping styles.
History shows us many music genres have quickly attained mass appeal after first being performed in underground clubs and radio stations, often as the result of underground club performances or broadcast radio. Some genres have survived long while others quickly faded; punk rock and grunge peaked in the early 1980s before quickly losing popularity; regardless of longevity most genres continue to adapt and find new audiences as musicians and consumers change with society; this is how music survives and thrives!
