If you love both Swedish furniture and black metal, Gatesman+Dave of Pittsburgh has created an online game that lets you put both to the test! Play their “Test Your Knowledge of Swedisch and Metal Furniture” to put yourself through an educational journey!
This quiz presents you with a word and asks whether it belongs to an IKEA product or metal band name – making this much harder than it appears!
Is it IKEA or a Metal Band?
Are You an Ikea or Death Fan? Gatesman+Dave’s Pittsburgh marketing agency Gatesman+Dave has gone one step further by creating an online quiz called “IKEA or Death” that challenges fans of both Swedish furniture and extreme metal music to differentiate the two products of Ikea from death metal band names! Take it today to test your ability!
This website challenges visitors to select between 20 words that describe either Ikea furniture or death metal bands – with each word, ranging from Absu to Norden to Vittsjo, being accompanied by images depicting its respective item or band (in case of death metal bands, showing members’ faces). To determine whether one word belongs in either category, simply click it; once clicked, its correct answer will appear on screen and you can move to the next question.
After running through the quiz quickly, I was able to identify almost all items and bands without error–though this may have been because I am familiar with those terms from browsing online. If this quiz gives you headaches if you’re unfamiliar with both Ikea catalog items as well as death metal lingo, be wary.
But if you can overcome your discomfort, IKEA or Death is definitely worth seeing – just don’t take it too seriously; after all, its new store in Fishers is due to open soon and is sure to bring plenty of metal-themed fun! See you then, Ikea or Death!
Is it IKEA or a Black Metal Band?
Ikea and death metal bands may seem dissimilar; IKEA offers affordable Swedish furniture that’s ready-to-assemble at an affordable price; death metal bands on the other hand often chant about Satan and sacrifice animals as sacrifice offerings to him. Pittsburgh agency Gatesman+Dave took advantage of this contrast to create IKEA or Death: an interactive quiz asking visitors whether each word like “Vittsjo” refers to an Ikea shelf or heavy metal band like Texas-based Absurd and Agunnaryd in Greece respectively.
Sam Panico and Jeff Barton of Game On Games noticed that IKEA furniture product names sounded strikingly similar to certain Scandinavian bands’ names, leading them to create this game as an educational opportunity to learn the differences. They encourage players to view this as an educational experience that offers them a chance to understand both brands of furniture.
If you love Ikea and metal music, combining both can be easier than you think! Our first quiz features 20 slides with random words or phrases such as “Absurd” or “Vittsjo.” In order to answer correctly, you must determine if each word or phrase represents either an Ikea product name or metal band – if having difficulty, there’s also an option showing you full names of each furniture item and band name as an aid!
Though black metal may often seem ridiculous, its fans often embrace its silliness. One such example can be found in Adult Swim cartoon Metalocalypse where fictional band Dethklok often pokes fun at itself and its fans; one episode even has them visit a Norwegian store called Drep Du Selv – which bears striking resemblance to Euronymous’ record store Helvete in Oslo, Norway.
Shredders Apparel’s sweater commemorates your love for both Ikea and black metal in one. Featuring a skeleton wearing an IKEA bag emblazoned with “All I Want for Kriegmas is a Preben,” it can help show your support without breaking the bank! Available both in men’s and women’s sizes so you can show your kvlt side regardless of body type!
Is it IKEA or a Power Metal Band?
Swedish furniture and death metal bands share several key similarities. Both offer reasonably priced, ready-to-assemble furnishings at reasonable prices, possess uncanny ability to combine consonant-rich words into coherent phrases, and boast passionate fan bases. Pittsburgh advertising agency Gatesman + Dave recognized these shared traits, creating this engaging online quiz called IKEA or Death to demonstrate them further.
This quiz presents you with 20 Scandinavian words, from which you must determine whether each represents an IKEA piece or death metal band name. Play it here now.
Answering the first few questions should be straightforward, but later challenges may emerge as some words sound similar and it takes longer to figure out whether an item belongs to Ikea or is part of a death metal band.
The creators of the quiz state that they came up with the concept for it while perusing an IKEA catalog and noting how many of the furniture names resembled death metal bands. Their hope is that their quiz will help people better comprehend IKEA products while simultaneously showing that some obscure bands exist that might otherwise remain unknown to most of society.
Hopefully this online quiz will make people more aware of how obscure some names of popular metal bands and IKEA products actually are, while hopefully inspiring people to check them out and possibly go see them live some day!
Is it IKEA or a Death Metal Band?
IKEA is known as a welcoming store where you can buy affordable furniture from within a warehouse, while death metal music strikes fear in listeners. Unfortunately, however, many IKEA product names and death metal band chants of Satanianic names often sound similar; to test your knowledge on both subjects Pittsburgh-based advertising agency Gatesman+Dave has created a quiz.
IKEA or Death is an online game where random words sound similar to IKEA products (such as Vittsjo or Absu), or death metal band names ( such as Watain). You need to determine whether it’s an Ikea shelf or death metal machine!
PSFK reported that IKEA or Death was created by Sam Panico and Jeff Barton, two self-professed metal fans. After noting the similarity in names between many Swedish furniture pieces and bands, these two decided to make their point by creating this website that will satisfiy both IKEA-lovers as well as metalheads who visit.
IKEA or Death is intended as a marketing tool, with its creators hoping that people will share it on social media to increase awareness for the brand and gain better pronunciation skills by practicing Swedish words over time. They promise that by practicing, eventually everyone will be able to pronounce furniture names correctly!
