Is Electronic Music Haram in Islam?

Islam does not prohibit music as such, but certain guidelines must be observed when listening. For example, any song with explicit and offensive lyrics such as curses is considered forbidden as it encourages immoral behavior and could promote hedonism.

Scholars have noted that ahadith which forbid music are unsuitable because they fail to represent the reality of Muslim societies.

It encourages sin

Some regions allow listening to qawwali music with melodious lyrics glorifying Allah and Muhammad while in others it may not be allowed – some scholars even state qawwali is forbidden as it contains instruments which are forbidden (haram).

A person should consider all aspects of a song when making their assessment – this includes lyrics, instruments and background vocals; traditional qawwali songs from India and Pakistan may permit some instruments but have forbidden lyrics; similarly background vocals could impact an individual’s thoughts and actions as well.
