1. Basic Chords
Beginners should begin their musical education by studying major chords. These chords include C, G and D and are found in popular songs like Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd; major chords tend to sound happy and convey positive emotions through music. To play them successfully, first ensure your fingers are in the proper positions by reviewing a chord chart; an “X” indicates whether fretting should occur while an “O” indicates strumming instead.
Chord diagrams also include a rectangle at the top that represents the guitar’s nut, along with dots that indicate which finger you should place on each fret in order to form chords. Any dot with numbers indicates which finger should push down onto one string during chording.
