In related news, Milwaukee-based ABC affiliate KTIV recently abandoned its country music format to switch over to clear channel status after losing a major advertising account. It’s not the first time a top-rated country station has done this either.

KRWM’s sister station in Spokane, KSWD, is switching its format from country to pop in an effort to boost ratings; once one of the highest-rated stations in its market for many years prior to struggling lately.

iHeart is slowly scaling back. Kent Phillips, the longtime PD/on-air talent for KPLZ-FM’s KPLZ-FM station for 35 years is leaving to join radio research firm FMR Associates and be his own boss; I can’t blame him!

Spokane’s KKZJB radio station will soon change to KAJA-FM with an aim to appeal to more women listeners by featuring classic hits and current favorites alike.

Nikki Torres from Portland’s KATU will join KING TV’s morning team as traffic reporter. Additionally, local news will now air after Good Day Seattle finishes each day at 10.

KIXI – Retro Radio

KIXI Radio Station features classic hits music, with songs by The Beatles, James Taylor and Blood Sweat and Tears among its offerings. The new format at WXRN Radio Station aims to attract younger listeners. It includes both contemporary and traditional country songs with an emphasis on storytelling from artists behind each track. Furthermore, WXRN provides local news updates, weather forecasts, traffic information as well as two fundraising campaigns per year to give back to its community and minimal ads that appeal to some listeners.

Although Hank FM may appear unusual at first glance, its decision was informed by market research. Research shows there is a growing audience for country radio in Seattle-Tacoma area and need for additional outlets focusing on country music. With Hank FM’s launch expected soon afterward, we hope Hank FM can grow its reach even further within our market.

Star 101.5 made a dramatic transformation on Monday by switching its format from indie rock and classic hits to country music. Remaining under their original call letters as 101.5 HANK FM, they hope this move will draw in younger listeners while competing with established stations such as 100.7 The Wolf. However, original morning hosts Curt Kruse and Jen Pirak have since left the airwaves; their whereabouts remains unknown.

KMCS has been an institution in Seattle for decades, giving airtime to some of its most iconic personalities. A perfect choice for listeners who enjoy variety music as well as discussing current affairs, KMCS can now also be found online!

Although KPNW’s rebrand is unusual, it remains an excellent choice for country music fans. While there may be pop artists on air, they also play traditional country tracks that appeal to both women and men listeners.
