Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite Cruise

Maxwell made waves when his critically-acclaimed 1996 debut album, Urban Hang Suite, redefined soul music and earned Grammy nominations. The double platinum record went on to spark comparisons between Maxwell and classic soul artists like Marvin Gaye and Prince. Since then, Maxwell has stayed true to himself and his craft; continuing to enchant fans with his music – now with an announcement of an upcoming cruise which will celebrate his new release, blacksummers’NIGHT.

This inaugural four-night cruise on the Norwegian Pearl will feature two exclusive performances by R&B star Ledisi as well as performances by Robert Glasper, Gallant, Sabrina Claudio, Musiq Soulchild and Leela James. Departing Miami on February 10-14 with stops in Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas this Valentine’s Day cruise is scheduled to make.

According to a press release, this cruise will feature concerts, parties, comedy shows and other activities on board. It will begin just days before singer Chris Cornell begins his three-night engagement at Las Vegas Wynn Encore Theater called NIGHT: The Trilogy Show.

While he won’t be performing songs from his new project, it will mark a return to his musical roots. For the past several years he has kept busy touring his music to venues like Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center; Grammy winner said that hearing how much his fans appreciate his music humbles him further.

Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite Cruise will embark from Miami, Florida, and last from February 10-14, 2024. Tickets begin at $999 plus taxes, fees, gratuities and booking charges of $349. Guests can book their tickets through the event website which features full listings of performers as well as itinerary details and photos; cabins in certain categories will even get to take part in a meet and greet photo event with Maxwell!

Blue Note at Sea

Blue Note Cruises’ celebrated jazz cruise line embarks on an annual Caribbean journey for one week at least, providing both an in-depth exploration of jazz music as well as an experience where “Great Music Is the Only Rule.” This cruise is run in partnership with Blue Note Jazz Clubs, Blue Note Records and Jazz Cruises; music director Eric Marienthal often appears as an event headliner during these voyages.

One cruise in 2023 featured two unforgettable shows. On the first day, French harmonica master Frederic Yonnet gave an engaging set of swinging melodies and bop-inspired improvisation on the main Black Radio Stage; and later in the afternoon on the Footprints Stage there was an explosive rap power hour between Rakim of Philadelphia’s legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff – two legendary MCs who brought an enormous audience together with them!

At Blue Note Stage 2, New Orleans bounce phenom Big Freedia made her mark. Backed by Khris Royal & Dark Matter, she and their band unleashed original and cover versions of classic Michael Jackson songs like Juvenile to deliver an energetic set. Meanwhile on the small Blue Note stage was Bobby and Taylor McFerrin’s family performance that combined trademark vocal stylings with outstanding keyboarding, production skills and production expertise.

All through the week, there will be numerous musical offerings ranging from Marcus Miller’s Conversations with the Stars and one-on-one conversations between artists and audience members to workshops and Q&A sessions. It gives musicians an opportunity to collaborate more closely while exploring all facets of jazz genre in an informal setting that’s not found at regular jazz festivals.

The next Blue Note at Sea Cruise departs Fort Lauderdale January 13-20 on Celebrity Summit and starts from $2,999 per person double occupancy.
