Daryl Bazilio hails from Ridgeland, South Carolina and began his musical journey performing high school chorus and solo work. Later moving to Myrtle Beach he began acting at local theaters while leading “The Soul Knights” vocal group.

Darryl Bazilio is a professor at Tennessee State University in Nashville where he specializes in applied voice, Opera History Survey, Opera Workshop, Music History Survey, Junior/Senior Recital, 20th Century Music and Conducting. In addition to these courses, Darryl also writes vocal, instrumental and choral works – founding African American concert choir JB Dancers as well as authoring African American Concert Singers Before 1950 (McFarland).
He has appeared as a soloist with the Heartland Symphony Orchestra of Minnesota, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Nashville Symphony and Buffalo Opera Unlimited Company in New York; recitalist and guest artist at many universities and schools around the United States and abroad; performed on stage as Luigi in Il Tabarro, Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Jim in Big River and Spalanzani in Tales of Hoffmann as well as Dancing Master in Ariadne auf Naxos.
Ephraim N. Brown hails from Georgetown, South Carolina. Beginning his musical career by performing at local theaters during high school performances, Ephraim now directs “The Soul Knights” band based out of Myrtle Beach.

Ephraim Brown is an accomplished musician specializing in drums, guitar, keyboards and vocals who has also studied music at IT Technical Communications Institute and currently performs with The Soul Knights band. Additionally, Ephraim was music minister for five years at St Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church before serving as musical director of a local community theater he managed as well as writing several musicals of his own.
His father was a Universalist merchant while Mary Ann Bancroft, Ephraim’s mother, was an active church member at Bullfinch Street Church (later Unitarian). Ephraim received some instruction at home before entering Latin school before attending Harvard Divinity School between 1842-1845 where his classmates included Joseph Henry Allen, John Pierpont Jr. Samuel Longfellow George Frederic Ware among others.
Arthur Menefee wrote on June 4, 1847 – one day prior to Ephraim’s murder – regarding the wedding of his daughter Eliza to J. Westfall while living in St Joseph Missouri. Being an impartial diarist, Menefee did not name Ephraim or provide details regarding what had transpired that day of Ephraim’s murder.
Ephraim Brown was three when he joined other neighborhood children playing in an alleyway behind his house. As bullets started flying due to an argument reportedly stemming from dirty looks between two groups of young men, Ephraim ran towards a covered walkway between two townhomes until one bullet entered his neck and exited through his back.

While their expertise on domestic violence is evident, they wear it lightly; being as interested in events when people did not act according to contemporary psychological theory as when they did act so as to create an engaging microhistory that’s well worth reading.
