Mayhem are known for creating some of the harshest music out there, and this song from their black metal troupe Mayhem (arguably, one of their harshest bands ever) may just be their most brutal song yet. This dark crusher packs an emotional wallop; even their clean vocals sound distorted here!

Obscura
Obscura stands as one of the greatest death metal albums ever released and with good reason. It showcases some of the genre’s most mind-bending musical wizardry while simultaneously standing apart from its contemporaries due to its gonzo decimation and unhinged theatrics – not to mention pioneering technical death metal as we know it today!
This album quickly became a favorite among fans and critics alike, and has become an instant classic among listeners of melodic death metal and technical death metal. Featuring both forms, its highlight being an incredible solo by guitarist Luc Lemay that will leave listeners breathless; another stand-out track on this record is “Earthly Love”, with its buzzing, buzzing riffs which give listeners a feeling of impending doom.
Contrary to most death metal songs, this song doesn’t focus on blood and guts; rather it explores themes of isolation and devastation instead. Furthermore, its disturbing lyrics make this one of the most disturbing metal songs ever.
Heavy metal may have the reputation of glorifying violence and bloodshed, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Some of the best metal songs delve into darker themes – such as those featured by genre mainstays Black Sabbath and Metallica; their songs cover topics such as cannibalism, rape, self-mutilation etc – however there are some subtle tracks which still gnarly like Infant Annihilator’s song called “Torn from the Womb”, depicting birthing. It’s definitely worth checking out!

The Path of Apotheosis
After an extended break since their 2002 album The End of An Era was released, Inferi reemerged with this incredible offering in 2014. They remain one of the most underrated melodic death metal bands around and this explosive and technical masterpiece proves it.
Mike Wilson of Path of Apotheosis stands out as arguably the finest drummer in tech death music today, creating a distinctive drum sound that could easily pass for full kit drumming. Instead of producing inaudible and rhythm-less tech death bands, Mike Wilson creates a lively drumming performance which keeps listeners interested. Meanwhile, their guitars are equally impressive; often recalling Necrophagist without becoming as cold or warm sounding as Spawn of Possession or Anatase but never leaving them completely out as some others would do – more chaotic but without becoming chaotic than their peers would typically produce.
Inferi are an outstanding example of the new wave of melodic death metal bands, redefining what was once just another genre into something much deeper than bombast: creating atmosphere and emotion through music. They do this through drumming that always remains audible throughout their tracks while using keyboards more sparingly (their bassline can also always be heard clearly, unlike some tech death bands that tend to hide behind buried basslines).
Finally, the vocals are excellent as well; each vocalist seamlessly switch between high-pitched rasp, black metal screams, and low screams to match each song’s mood. Furthermore, its lyrics include topics such as cannibalism, rape and self-mutilation that might otherwise not appear within this genre.
Mogari
Imperial Circus Dead Decadence defy initial assumptions by not falling into any genre traps with MOGARI, their innovative record that defies initial impressions. MOGARI doesn’t abide by track length or album runtime requirements – instead veering erratically between genres while maintaining incredible musicianship all along its journey.
This dark and twisted take on melodic death metal is truly incredible. Channeling bands like Dimmu Borgir and Carcass, its lead guitars soar powerful chord progressions and riffs to pierce your soul; while bass slaps with punishing force while providing thunderous fills; while an innovative keys element adds atmosphere or builds bridges between disparate sections.
Although more in line with tech death than traditional melodic death metal, the drums here are both dynamic and aggressive – they can slam with blast beats at any moment or slow things down with marching tempos.
Gloomy Gothic production features dark and aggressive vocals with both screaming lyrics and soothing melodic vocals that add depth and dimension to their music. Influences for their sound include funeral doom metal as the music features an ominous and forlorn atmosphere which adds another level of depth to it all.
Mogari was originally created by the Kubitani to protect their village; in episode 6 of GoGo Sentai Boukenger he appeared as an antagonist. While possessing considerable physical strength, he proved adept at fighting multiple Boukengers at once using his stone armor. Mogari could even summon larger versions of himself.
Impaled has always had a passion for all things fecal, but this song takes things one step further. “Rest in Faeces” takes an unnervingly graphic approach to excrement-related horror with lyrics like: “as rectal mucus flows, cadavers are exposed, tombstones fall to the ground” and a driving grindcore pace – making this track unfit for fainthearted listeners! Taken from their 2002 album Mondo Medicale.
Imperial Circus Dead Decadence
Imperial Circus Dead Decadence – also known by their initials ICDD – are an intriguing band who defy expectations with each album they release, from their imaginative album covers to their inimitable fictional language that connects their tracks, defying expectations at every turn. Pressing play on MOGARI unleashes an over-an-hour journey across genres with incredible musicianship in tow.
Japanese group Aether Six are an essential listen for any metal fan. Boasting songs spanning thrashing death metal to brutal decadence metal, their music transcends any one genre or subgenre. Their complex music incorporates techniques such as flutter picking and complex double bass patterns while still remaining accessible and enjoyable by the average metal listener.
Imperial Circus Dead Decadence have proven their mettle as bold explorers of death metal with tracks such as “Torn from the Womb” and “Whorespawn,” making a bold statement about their willingness to take risks and explore uncharted territory. While their latest release veers more towards melodic death metal than some of their earlier work, its intensity remains just as intense – guaranteeing fans an experience not soon to forget!
Contrary to many bands, this group has successfully created an album with a consistent and solid sound across their albums. Their debut features an extensive use of double bass as well as melodic death metal, black metal, and thrash metal styles; in addition, there are notable guest appearances.
Dan first encountered Heartwork by Carcass at 13 and has been an avid follower ever since. He is especially drawn to extreme metal and strives to seek out music that pushes boundaries; creating his own material under the name ISA (and several anonymous projects). When retiring he hopes to spend long days hiking in nature while nights relaxing with a DAW.
This album stands out from others melodic death metal albums with its incredible dueling guitar virtuosity. Both members can transform a tune and add their unique signature effortlessly, making this album one of the best examples in its genre.
