Home Depot Acoustic Sealant

LePage PL Acousti-Seal is an economical and straightforward acoustic sealant that easily reduces noise transmission in wall systems. Non-hardening and flexible, it won’t crack or shrink over time while helping maintain specific acoustic ratings of wall assemblies.

Although regular caulk can help seal gaps, only acoustic caulk will effectively block sound transfer – providing your home with greater comfort and quiet.

How to Use

Acoustic caulk may cost more than regular caulk, but its effectiveness in soundproofing makes up for its increased cost. Plus, its easy installation makes it ideal for DIY projects!

For optimal results, apply acoustic caulk on all seams and cracks in your walls, ceiling, or floor to stop noise transfer between rooms and keep outside noise out of your home. Select an effective type to suit your specific needs for maximum impactful sound proofing results.

LePage PL Acousti-Seal Vapour Barrier & Sound Reduction Adhesive is an excellent choice for sealing gaps around windows, vents and other obstructions in partition walls that require high STC ratings. This non-hazardous adhesive provides an alternative to latex in terms of odor reduction as well as longevity without drying out or cracking over time.

To properly apply acoustic sealant, start by taking several steps. Remove the plastic cap from the tube. If you don’t require all of it, cut above the line at a 45-degree angle – this will enable you to control the size and evenness of bead formation for smooth application.

Preparation

Latex caulk provides the optimal acoustic sealant for walls. Due to its rubbery properties, this caulk provides effective soundproofing. Be wary of silicone caulk or hybrid caulk that combines silicone and latex together; such materials could compromise soundproofing performance. Spray foam caulks should also be avoided since these may interfere with its effectiveness.

Before using an acoustic caulk, remove all old caulk and scrape away any paint chips or debris that may be present in the gap to ensure that its adhesion will adhere properly to a clean surface. It would also be wise to sand this area to ensure an even surface before applying acoustic sealants.

Green Glue’s Acoustic Sealant for Walls is ideal for soundproofing gaps, cracks and joints in construction such as wall and ceiling seams, providing an air seal which effectively stops sound transfer between spaces. Plus it can even be painted over to avoid interfering with standard finishing materials!

This non-hazardous product features very little odor, making it an ideal choice for indoor applications. Highly flexible, this seal can seal against vibrations and movement as well as act as bedding compound to secure vibrating elements, electrical boxes or any items recessed into walls. Furthermore, fire, smoke and environmental impact testing has verified its safety and sustainability.

Application

This versatile adhesive can be used to bond vapour barrier films and seal gaps between surfaces effectively, while simultaneously reducing sound transmission. Compatible with most construction materials including wood, gypsum board, plaster, metal and concrete masonry as well as moisture-prone environments, this non-hazardous, odorless and crack-free adhesive also maintains specific sound transmission class values (STC values) of wall systems – perfect for fireproof partitions if applied using handgun or foam applicator.
