Writing songs doesn’t need to be hard; all it requires is some basic knowledge and some experience in music theory and composition. Most musicians begin their musical careers by starting with chord progressions or melodies as the basis of their song writing process.
By selecting a root note and chord type, diagrams for different fret positions will appear onscreen. Furthermore, you can request chord progressions with specific key signatures.
Strum mode
Strum mode provides you with the ability to strum chords using either the keyboard or slider (midi mappable), with some additional controls such as start knob and tension knob that let you customize the order of string/note contact during strumming sequences, altering their “amount of acceleration during an up or down strumming action”.
New to Key Sustain is Key Sustain, which keeps keyboard, slider, or midi controller notes playing as long as the key between C1-C2 is held down. This can be combined with Latch control to keep a strum going even after you release it!
The lower area of MIDI keyboard area allows users to choose ‘Common Phrases’ – phrases independent from any specific Style that can help players play a basic rhythmic or melodic part with ease.
Pick mode
Sometimes our chord progressions become stagnant and repetitive. Learning modes is one way out by adding fresh sounds to our arrangements; mode stemming from major scale but using various note combinations to produce its distinctive sound.
Modal sound can be defined by its combination of harmony and dissonance, giving a song an overall feeling of comfort while dissonance adds tension, darkness, or heaviness.
Create your own chord patterns is a fantastic way to develop musical composition skills. Chord patterns can be displayed as notes, intervals or finger positions and saved into three user chords; then they can even be strung together and played back! You can strum the chords directly too to hear how they sound!
Capo
A capo is a small clamp you can affix to any fret of your guitar neck to raise its pitch by either half or one whole step – enabling you to play songs in different keys without changing chord structures or chord shapes.
When placed at any particular fret, all open strings sound in that key; for instance, placing it at fret two will have all open string notes sound like the D chord (C key).
First step when using a capo is identifying which key you are currently in by looking at the top row of chord chart.
Finger markers
A chord box, more commonly known as a chord diagram, is a simplified representation of the fretboard with dots (known as position markers) indicating which frets to finger. These dots often include numbers or circles to indicate which finger will be used when picking.
These dots serve as visual guides when playing guitar, assisting in finding chord notes more quickly and switching between barre and movable chords more seamlessly. For instance, one dot on the 5th fret indicates playing a barre chord while one on the 7th indicates switching into power chord mode.
Mnemonic devices can also help you remember the names of each string’s notes with ease; make up a silly or memorable rhyme to help yourself recall their names more easily.
Save
Switching between guitar and piano, and vice versa is a common occurrence among musicians as it helps keep music fresh and exciting while developing different aspects of skillsets.
Mods may seem complex at first, but breaking them down into their components can help provide clarity. For instance, Dorian and Lydian both employ similar scale shapes but sound different when used within music context.
