Who is Kidz Bop?
Kidz Bop is an award-winning music group known for creating family-friendly covers of popular pop songs. Established in 2001 and quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon, Kidz Bop released multiple compilation albums, becoming the top selling kids album brand globally. Furthermore, television shows were produced as well as tours internationally by this cultural phenomenon which now has a massive social media following and can often be found featured in commercials for companies like Dollar Car Rental and Subway.
Kidz Bop was founded by Craig Balsam and Cliff Chenfeld of Razor & Tie record label. Both parents themselves, they saw a gap in the market for music targeted toward school-aged children; there was plenty of options for preschoolers like Wheels on the Bus; however there weren’t as many options targeted specifically towards five to eight year-olds so they created Kidz Bop to address that need.
They recruited child singers and dancers to star in their albums, featuring clean versions of contemporary pop songs that were already censored on radio stations. Furthermore, they rewrote lyrics in order to remove profanities or suggestive content as well as ensure age-appropriate videos for these music videos.
Even with lyrics altered and edited for their performances, their music remains recognisable to fans of its original artists. Their wholesome image has won them praise from parents and children alike and major brand partnerships have even resulted in them creating their own podcast series on Audible.
Kidz Bop franchise’s popularity prompted increased demands for additional merchandise and events, prompting it to expand to include live performances at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas as well as YouTube channel featuring 150 music videos annually. Kidz Bop World Tour now spans 40 countries globally!
Although Kidz Bop has enjoyed great success, its popularity hasn’t come without criticism. Over time, numerous individuals have voiced concern regarding its business practices–specifically whether the group rewrites lyrics to remove offensive content–which was highlighted when YouTuber Elise Ecklund posted a viral video clip showing her performing an internet search to identify who owns Kidz Bop – many viewers thought Ecklund might be CEO but Ecklund denies these claims and claims her internet search was done fraudulently.
What is Kidz Bop?
Kidz Bop is a name you may have come across if you have children or have been in close proximity to families, due to its kitschy infomercials and legendary kitschy infomercials. But there’s more than meets the eye: Kidz Bop is in fact an actual record label featuring performers that train on stage and travel, producing compilation albums featuring kid-friendly pop songs as well as live shows, merchandise sales and even their own SiriusXM channel dedicated to Kidz Bop’s music.
Razor & Tie was established by co-founders Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam in 2001. To kick start their company, they sold compilation albums with oldies hits that were modified for children, along with talent search competitions to find those kids who would sing on these records and appear in music videos associated with each release.
Kidz Bop now consists of more than 38 albums, boasting ensembles which have consistently ranked as Billboard’s top-selling children artists for several years and ranking higher than iconic artists like Madonna and Elton John on its 200 chart, according to Zaraya. They have embarked on six national tours as well as performing at private functions and corporate events.
Kidz Bop ensembles are selected through a nationwide audition process and assembled locally for recording. Rehearsals take place for several weeks under the direction of professionals before being put out on tour performing in full costume with live band accompaniment for performances that often produce high-energy concerts with some debate surrounding whether Kidz Bop is suitable for children.
Singers in this show range in age from 8-13, but this can change year to year, and all have extraordinary talent. Selected from thousands of submissions to perform both studio and live performance settings and earn a modest wage; but what truly steals the show are professional choreographers’ coaching of dancers as pairs to perform together and teach choreography routines during performances.
What are the songs on Kidz Bop?
Since 2001, Kidz Bop has provided the world with kid-sung remixes of today’s top pop hits since 2001. Culled from national casting calls, these children have recorded albums, gone on tour, and appeared in music videos while selling over 23 million albums and amassing 8 billion streams collectively!
Kidz Bop albums don’t contain songs that are necessarily inappropriate for children, yet some still contain offensive language or inappropriate lyrics that might cause issues for kids listening. To ensure they remain family-friendly, Kidz Bop uses censorship by changing certain phrases to make them less offensive – though this method has proven ineffective: A 2017 study indicated that replacing lyrics does not completely erase their recognition from children’s memories if they have already heard the original version.
Kidz Bop does not allow “Blurred Lines,” as its lyrics include references to drinking and partying. To placate parents, Kidz Bop changed its lyrics so as to mention dancing instead; however, that does not capture what this song really represents; its true message may involve women falling for men who are unsuitable for them – certainly not suitable content for young listeners.
Kidz Bop kids don’t make breaking up an easy process; their version of “Boom Boom Pow” provides an enjoyable danceable break-up anthem as well as helpful relationship advice: it is better to have an excellent breakup rather than start on an unfavorable note. “It’s better to have a great ending than an awful beginning!” the chorus sings.
Kidz Bop kids may not yet be household names, but their alumni include two-time Golden Globe winner Zendaya, former Disney star Ross Lynch, and cast members from popular show The Goldbergs who all made their debut performance at Kidz Bop music factory stage.
Kidz Bop remains one of the premier groups on the music scene with more than 12 studio albums and live shows under their belts, earning them critical acclaim from music critics alike. Their positive image has contributed significantly to their success; now, Kidz Bop plans on expanding overseas through their newly announced British Kidz Bop stars.
