Key of Eb

In this lesson we’ll learn to play Jar Of Hearts in the key of Eb. It is an accessible piano song with very easy guitar accompaniment. Additionally, we will examine some of its melodic lines found within its piano performance and how they may be incorporated into your accompaniment on guitar.

This song is truly lovely, and I hope that you find learning it a pleasurable experience. If you have any queries or feedback for me, feel free to get in touch – I always love hearing from my students! Remember to try your hardest to stay true to the composers intent while at the same time making things simpler for yourself if this improves performance.

Melody

Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri was her debut single and is easily playable on guitar with a capo on the third fret. Its melodic lines can be learned fairly quickly while exploring some of its small melodic nuances that are heard during piano playing – this will help give an understanding of this wonderful song’s structure; verses, bridge, chorus and outro can feel more Cmin-based while chorus and outro more Ebmajor-based.

Lyrics

The song, “Jar of Hearts”, features Perri as she searches for love. She collects hearts from loved ones to give to her love interest but he takes it back from her instead. Perri then sings about being tired of having broken hearts and wants him back with dancing with other women while collecting more hearts for herself in return. In the music video for this song she watches as her love interest collects hearts while dancing alongside them.
