Rock music continues to enthrall audiences half a century after its peak, infusing arenas, amphitheaters, music festivals, and county fairs with excitement worldwide. At Woodstock, promoters realized that rock music fans were willing to travel long distances for destination events.
Classic Rock Awards
The Classic Rock Awards have been running for nine years and serve as a British version of the Grammys with much fanfare and fanfare, yet always deliver in terms of talent and guest presenters. Jeff Beck, known for his charismatic southern charm and ability to illuminate rehearsals with his lively persona was there, as were Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett among many others.
MusicRadar crew were in attendance, with Alice Cooper serving as Master of Ceremonies and Cheap Trick performing an explosive set to close the evening. Ronnie Wood – who presented in front of a packed room – accepted his outstanding contribution award, AC/DC won band of the year with their international tour for Rock or Bust album Rock or Bust and Iron Maiden won album of the year with The Book of Souls album release.
American band The Killers won a special prize for producing the best live performance of 2015 at Download Festival this summer. Additionally, awards were handed out for Reissue of the Year, Best Live DVD, and Film of the Year; with Foo Fighters touring recording studios across America to record Sonic Highways winning this latter honor.

One of the most memorable classic rock concerts was The Who’s Quadrophenia tour, a rock opera complete with storyline and eye-popping theatricality that left audiences speechless. Spaceship landings and executions graced its stages; truly unforgettable performances left audiences speechless.
Stonewall Riot in 1969 marked an historic event for gay rights, helping launch the Civil Rights Movement. Jim Morrison and The Doors would come out for this concert that went on to make such an impressionful statement through their subsequent albums.

Rock Festivals
Rock festivals are events featuring multiple musical performances by different artists that span multiple days, and may or may not recur annually at the same location. Festivals may feature all genres from folk to heavy metal; and serve to bring people with similar interests together while building social cohesion.
Rock festivals are among the most significant of these events and typically feature large gatherings of people and well-known music performers. Over time these festivals have become part of cultural consciousness; their influence extends far beyond their initial numbers of attendees – Woodstock in 1969 attracted half a million attendees to a farm in upstate New York alone and is widely considered one of the most significant cultural events ever in Western culture.
Rock festivals began as an attempt to provide an arena that could accommodate large audiences while encouraging interaction between performers and audience members. They are often held outdoors at natural settings. Festivals typically feature multiple stages and provide food and beverage vendors as well as entertainment options like sports or other activities. The first major rock festival took place in Monterey, California, in 1967. Produced by the same promoters who had organized Monterey Jazz Festival, it proved an economic disaster but inspired other promoters to stage similar events – one notable being Altamont Speedway event (1969, when multiple people were assaulted and one fatally stabbed). Unfortunately this did not help build trust in such events.
At present, rock festivals are hosted all around the globe. Two notable American events that stand out include Coachella and Bonnaroo; these summertime festivals attract strong teen attendance, serving as more than simply concerts but rather part of youth culture.
